Individuals, businesses, non-profits, and institutions of higher education are all eligible to participate in the MTA Genius Transit Challenge.
Applicants will be provided with information on the existing transit system and challenged to share ideas that can be implemented with speed and efficiency. We look forward to the insight, creativity, and genius that you will bring to solving these challenges.
Challenge Terms and Conditions THE JUDGING PROCESS Proposals will be submitted and reviewed during a two-phase evaluation process
In Phase 1, applicants will submit an application that addresses one or more of the three Challenge areas. Applications that meet all New York State requirements will be evaluated on their ability to fulfill Challenge objectives, innovativeness, and capacity for implementation.
The MTA Genius Transit Challenge Judges will review the submissions with the help of an Evaluation Committee, composed of MTA, academic, engineering, and external transit experts. In Phase 2, semi-finalists will receive additional guidelines, have an opportunity to refine their submissions, and provide supporting materials and in-depth details about their ideas. The Evaluation Committee will review Phase 2 applications on the basis of their ability to fulfill Challenge objectives, innovativeness, capacity for implementation, and cost-effectiveness.
The expert panel of judges announced here will select the winners for each Challenge area from the pool of semi-finalists. Winners will be determined by year-end 2017. CHALLENGE WINNERS Craft the future of New York City’s subway and win up to $1,000,000 in prize money
Winners of the Challenge will have the opportunity to bring New York into the future and transform its transit system for generations to come. Each Challenge area winner will be awarded a cash prize of up to $1,000,000.
Winners will be announced in December 2017.
